Edge Glued Boards
A wooden panel consisting of narrow bars is called a board. The width of such lamellas can vary between 20 and 45 millimeters. They are glued together along the width, and much less frequently, gluing occurs along the length.
Various furniture elements are made from birch panels. Furniture board is one of the most popular materials for making furniture. Only wood blanks whose moisture content does not exceed 6-8% can be used in production. Compliance with technology allows us to produce material with improved performance characteristics. Birch furniture board is a durable, aesthetically attractive, and environmentally friendly material used to make furniture. It surpasses some other furniture materials in its characteristics and can be an excellent choice for those who value furniture's high quality and durability.
The properties of birch wood make it possible to obtain furniture material that is distinguished by such features as:
Optimal thermal conductivity.
This figure is almost two times higher than that of pine or spruce. Birch is practically not used in construction but is indispensable in furniture production and interior decoration.
Aesthetics.
Birch board has the natural beauty of wood. Its natural color and texture give the furniture a unique and elegant appearance. Birch board can be easily painted or treated with various finishing materials, allowing you to create various furniture designs. Therefore, if your furniture's aesthetics and appearance are important to you, birch furniture panels can be an excellent choice.
The core and sapwood are practically the same color. The wood has a light yellow or pinkish tint. It is used to make elements that imitate valuable wood species.
Strength and durability.
One of the main advantages of birch furniture boards is their high strength. Birch board has excellent mechanical characteristics, which allow it to withstand heavy loads and not deform over time. Compared to other furniture materials, such as plastic or chipboard, birch board has higher strength and durability. Over time, it does not deform and perfectly withstands severe shock loads.
Structure.
Durable and dense wood has a uniform structure. Its soft fiber allows individual lamellas to be firmly joined together.
Environmental Safety
Birch board is an environmentally friendly material. It is made from natural wood without the addition of harmful chemicals. Unlike some other furniture materials, such as plastic or chipboard, birch board does not emit toxic fumes and does not pollute the environment. Therefore, a birch furniture panel may be a better option if you are concerned about environmental safety.
Price
Birch board usually costs more than other furniture materials such as plastic or chipboard. However, given its strength, durability, and aesthetic qualities, investing in birch furniture panels may be worthwhile. The high quality and durability of birch panels can allow you to save on furniture replacement in the future.
The finished board retains all the indicators and properties of solid wood. Treatment with a special varnish significantly strengthens it. Materials are manufactured in the customer’s standard sizes.
Types of furniture boards
There are two categories of boards based on the principle of joining the lamellas.
- board made of solid lamellas (the lamellas are glued along the width);
- boards made of jointed lamellas (the lamellas are glued together along the length and width).
One of the main requirements is a smooth surface. It cannot have fallen knots or other defects. The final grinding grit ranges from 80 to 120 units. A board made from solid lamellas is more expensive. It looks more aesthetically pleasing and can be used to manufacture façade furniture elements. The spliced analog is more robust. It is used to produce stairs, tabletops and windowsills, sides of kitchen drawers, etc. Our board uses hidden finger jointing, in which the stitch on the front side is almost invisible.
